NTSA Student Comments

March 13, 2006

"You folks really know the right way to run a business. I received a gift certificate for the class as a Christmas gift from a good friend of mine. I communicated with Jennifer several times before the class to work out some difficulties that arose in me scheduling a class. (At the time, I resided in Waco and rarely drove to Dallas.) Jennifer always responded with a friendly "no problem." These days it is rare to find a business that will actually accommodate a customer's needs.

"The superior ways in which they run their business is also apparent in Scott's teaching of the class. Scott closely watches each student's shooting, and then he individualizes his instruction to each student based on what he sees. For example, on several occasions, Scott positioned his face about two feet away from the side of my gun. As a I shot, Scott stared at my trigger pull to assess my technique. After he realized that I was failing to "roll" the trigger correctly, he showed my how to do it correctly. Thereafter, Scott would visually check my trigger pull every time he passed behind me during shooting drills.

"Going into the class, I hoped that I wouldn't need to change my shooting grip in order to improve, because I really didn't want to change it. One of the first things Scott showed us was a new grip. So, I thought to myself, "Oh great, here we go...he's wanting me to change my grip...." I gave it a try. Indeed, the change felt awkward at first, but after about 30 minutes, the grip Scott recommended felt MORE comfortable than my existing grip. Also, this new grip made it easier to keep my sights from drifting off target, and therefore dramatically improved my accuracy.

"Thank you Scott and Jennifer for such a wonderful experience. I will not hesitate to recommend your class to my friends and family."

"Scott, I just wanted to say 'Thank-you, Thank-you, Thank-you' to you, Jennifer, Mike, and Jerry for an incredible day of shooting yesterday.  I learned more in one day, than I have probably learned in my entire life about proper technique for handgun shooting.

"You and the rest of your team made it an absolutely wonderful experience and I cannot tell you how glad I am that I attended the class.  You are a top-notch organization and can use me as a reference anytime.

"Thanks again and I will be browsing your website for the next class to attend to further my handgun skills."

Sincerely,

"I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know how much I enjoyed the Basic Handgun 1 and 2 combined class I attended on October 25th.

"This was the first time I have had formal handgun training with anyone, and I must say that your method of teaching and the personal attention far exceeded my expectations. It certainly was more informative and effective than watching the entire series of tapes by Bill Wilson and Ken Hackathorn.

"I really liked your approach of starting at the foundation (stance), building up through shooting, and then including the different types of reloads you could expect to use in either competition or self defense.

"There is a great benefit in learning how to do all of the basics the correct way the first time, and I am glad I pursued this training with you before my bad habits were so ingrained that they would be difficult to break. Now I can start applying what you taught right away and make my dry fire practice and trips to the range more fun and productive.

"The progress I made from when we first started the class until the end really surprised me, as I didn't think I could achieve a 50% improvement in my shooting ability with just one session with you.

"Feel free to use this as one of your testimonials if you wish, as I will be recommending your training to all my family and friends."

"We really enjoyed the day at the range.  The pace of your class was comfortable, and the skills taught were great.  I believe we can build on what you have taught us.  I can work with D. and get her going better with time. And work on my grip/front sight too.

"We were both very pleased and hope to return again.  I hope you decide to keep Basic Pistol 1 & 2 classes together.  I think you started from the ground up; then the student can go from there and practice day after day.

"Thanks for your professionalism and great instruction ability,"

"I had a very good day two Sundays ago.  I enjoyed meeting and spending the day with you, and I learned and practiced almost more than I bargained for (I fell asleep by 7:30 that evening).  I like your teaching style, and I appreciate - a lot - the personalized attention.

"I definitely want more instruction, along with my wife, if you are willing.  My wife has minimal shooting experience, but she is careful and thoughtful.

"Anyway, I will be in the full-time travel mode for another couple months, but I will contact you to see what your availability is when I know what ours is (My wife is a teacher and takes a lot of trips during the summer while I work).  Please do keep me on your active contact list.

"Thank you again for an enjoyable and productive day."

"I first picked up a handgun in April, 2000, just before I started shooting International Defensive Pistol matches. A month or two after that, I signed up for North Texas Shooting Academy's Basic class, and it made a big difference. I learned so many hidden details about grip and stance and more that I was a much better shooter almost immediately. The classes are restricted to a small number of students, so you get a lot of direct instruction. You don't have to wait while 20 people do a drill ahead of you. I learned so much more than I could possibly remember, so when the next Basic class came around, I audited it as a refresher.

"In October, 2000, I placed 3rd in *SSP/SS at the Lone Star State IDPA Championship match.

"Over the next few months I continued to practice and follow the advice I got from Scott and NTSA. I took the NTSA Intermediate class to start adding some polish, and took a few private lessons so I could ask a lot of nitty-gritty questions. At the Oklahoma State IDPA Championship in April, 2001, almost exactly one year from firing my first shots, I placed 1st in SSP/SS and was promoted to Expert.

"I know this reads like I'm bragging, but I don't mean it that way. There's just no better way to explain the difference good instruction can make. If Scott can take someone like me who had never touched a handgun before and create a 1st place winner, imagine what he can do with you.

"I really believe that the instruction I got from NTSA put me over the top. Scott really is interested in seeing his students succeed, and that makes all the difference."

"Scott,
Thanks for an outstanding job at the class yesterday--You all were just great

"I bet I was the best Senior Citizen at the class (ha, ha!)

"Special thanks also to your assistants - Ever since I started shooting a year ago everyone has been very helpful. I was a senior manager for many years and did a lot of training, but your style is great - serious, but fun too!

"Thanks so much,"

"I would like to say 'Thanks' for the class this past Saturday. I learned a lot, especially how to control the weapon and to be more efficient with less movement.

"I'll see you this summer for more training."

"We wanted to thank you very much for instructing us this weekend.  We certainly learned more than we thought we would.  I know I learned more than when I was at [a Firearms Shooting Institute in Nevada] and I had a lot more fun doing it!

"You are a great teacher.  Knowledge alone does not make a good teacher, and you are gifted in showing others how to shoot... And you do it patiently and calmly.  These are things we appreciate, and we will certainly refer others to you because of it.

"The class was fast-paced but we found we could keep up with it.  You taught us a lot, and we certainly got our money's worth.  Your ability to keep 'pushing' us really helped.

"We liked the fact that the class size was limited, allowing you more time for one-on-one with us.

"Your tent is a big bonus - We really appreciated it.  All the "little things" really do matter - like having extra water there for us.

"Your emphasis on SAFETY went over well with us also.  Safety, safety, safety... We try to live by it when at the range.

"Thanks for letting me try your holsters, and for the T-Shirts!

"Overall, we are very happy we took your class!!!  We had a great time, learned a lot, and are looking forward to coming back, fine-tuning, and learning more.  We will definitely recommend you to others.

"Thanks again for a wonderful weekend and we hope to see you again soon!"
